Jennifer Laidlaw earned her MD from the University of British Columbia before finishing her residency in psychiatry. During her residency she was actively involved in medical education. She has presented at international conferences and written on the subject of screening for delirium, as well as professionalism and social media. She began her career at Surrey Memorial Hospital as the Head Consultation Liaison (CL) in Psychiatry. Her main focus was developing a vibrant, highly collaborative CL service to provide the psychiatric treatment needed by patients in the medical and surgical units including the oncology and Palliative Care Units. She was also awarded an Facilities Engagement grant to create guidelines for managing vulnerable patients at the hospital.
She is also the provincial practice director for Psychiatry in BC Cancer, Clinical Associate professor at UBC, and the Past-President BC Psychiatric Association. She is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and an adjunct faculty member of the UM PMR and Family Medicine residency programs. She has a longstanding interest in research and education on musculoskeletal issues. She currently teaches Neuromuscular and musculoskeletal medicine to the Family Medicine residents and has ongoing research projects related to musculoskeletal health electrodiagnostic medicine, and performing arts medicine.
