That was the me sage Aaron Boone received on his way to the airport Sunday night. The Yankees were fresh off a lo s to the Logan Forsythe Jersey Blue Jays, one in which Boone made a questionable decision. With two out in the eighth, he had a consenting David Robertson walk a sore Josh Donaldson to pitch to Justin Smoak with the bases loaded. The move backfired, as Smoak belted a grand slam, sealing a 7-4 win for Toronto.

Critics of the choice immediately pounced. Now, here was Boone, getting advice from his father, Bob, as New Yorks first road trip concluded.

I wouldnt say hes so much a critic. Hes opinionated and he has a lot of thoughts. Hes seen a lot in this game. He shares with me how he could do certain things. I wouldnt say a critic, just a lot of thoughts, a lot of opinions and then very supportive.

The elder Boone, of course, was a big-league manager for six years, spending three seasons apiece in Kansas City and Cincinnati in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. The younger Boone, however, is a neophyte, just four games removed from the broadcast booth after a 12-year playing career.

If his pops has something to say, hes going to take it under consideration.

Everyone else? Not so much.

If Boone didnt expect to be put under a microscope when he took the job, he Fernando Valenzuela Jersey certainly does now. Being Yankees manager means having to hear never-ending chatter from outside voices.

The job doesnt require him to pay them any mind, though.

I dont deal with the second-gue sing, Boone said. I dont pay attention to it. Were prepared, my coaches and I. We feel good about the decisions we make. We feel good about the decisions we have made.

That said, Boone added that there is self-reflection between him and his staff. Speaking specifically of Sundays decision to pitch to Smoak, Boone said it was one everyone him, Robertson and pitching coach Larry Rothschild agreed on.

We identified the matchup we preferred, Boone said. Larry and I were comfortable with that. We just wanted to make sure Robertson did too, Yasmani Grandal Jersey and he did. Thats the way he wanted to go and they got us. They got us yesterday. I mean, Smoaks a really good hitter. Its gonna happen. One more pitch and were out of that thing.

So close, yet Smoaks hit went so far.

Boone knows that not every call he makes is going to be the right one, and that even the right ones cases can be made for and against Sundays example wont always work out on the field. Boone likely isnt looking forward to more of that, but after just a few games he has no regrets about this whole managing thing.
